If you want to make this world a better place to live, develop an eye for unseen things, an ear for unheard and a heart for unfelt to actually show YOU CARE! It’s time to introspect ourselves if we care for ourselves enough and for our aging elders.

What’s on your plate?  – This does matter when you have crossed the age of 50 if you want to stay on top of your game! As we age, so does our body and feeding it with the right amount of nutrients is as important as it is to get timely tests done such as dental tests, eye check-up, osteoporosis screening, Cholesterol test, bone density test, etc. It’s important for us to understand that dietary changes need to accompany a diagnosis of our body as well.

Ask people about their elder parents’ health and well-being today, and their answers won’t differ much. Very few will be in a category of boasting about parents in their 80s and occasionally 90s who still live independently, travel and exercise daily. Others will describe parents in their 70s and even 60s who live in homes and suffer from chronic illnesses, memory loss, limited mobility, reduced visibility, skin wrinkling, age spots, Osteoporosis, Depression, Hair Loss, Blood Pressure problems, abnormal sugar levels, digestive issues, hearing loss, and the list goes on. One thing is certain that the rate at which human beings age varies widely depending on how you treat it in your 40’s and 50’s.

The age limit of 50-59 is an alarming stage bringing a lot of changes and challenges in which one’s body starts responding in a different manner. Usually people in the 50’s say they feel like they still are 40, but believe me, you are not doing as well as you might think! Intake of one prescription drug on a daily basis is not a good sign. If you have made not so healthy lifestyle choices to date, it’s actually more important now than ever to take care of your physical, emotional and mental well being.  With the provision of In Gym facilities in the market today, one can avail offers of free weight-bearing exercises like walking, jogging, weight training or hiking to retain the new bone tissue that strengthens your entire skeletal system. The good news is brisk walking of 30 minutes a day actually helps your cognitive impairment in your later age. Engaging your brain in brain games, chess, puzzles in newspapers or even learning a new language in your 50’s has proven to bring memory improvements. A daily contribution of 30-50 minutes towards all of these would suffice the whole purpose of me writing this for my readers today.

With us getting less socialized these days and instead of sitting and eating with family we tend to eat in front of screens which makes us eat more. The weight gain cycle can be prevented with the right food intake and in the right amount. Strengthen your bones with a diet high in bone-healthy superheroes calcium, magnesium, vitamin K and vitamin D.  We all struggle to get enough of these nutrients in our diet, so look for a food-based supplement which is easily available online these days. When it comes to satisfying our taste buds, we prefer salted, spicy and sweet foods often but consequences to future you may not be worth that extra flavor.

Although this decade signifies a lot of changes but let’s make it one of the best and life turning decisions for your parents or grandparents as a little act of care can go a long way further for them.
